Ok so yes it is very sad but it is also so exciting to see our babies grow up and change and become more like "real" people every day!
Here are little munchkins stats from her 1 year check-up:
Weight: 20 lbs. 14 oz. (50%)
Height: 31" (95%)
She wasn't able to get her vaccines because she had a low-grade fever from teething. The kid has 12 teeth already! But she has been a trooper. Yes a little fussy at times but overall, sleeping great and just her normal cute silly self.
And I know I am going to jinx this by saying it but at least this will be proof it actually happened for 1 day...Kelby's off the bottle, COLD TURKEY! WOW, is all I can say. But I am also very tapped into my pessimistic side so I haven't thrown out all the bottles yet. Basically we gave her a morning bottle of formula, then that was it for the formula. So the next bottle was going to be whole milk for the first time, and rather than have her ever associate it with a bottle, I decided to just go for it and do only sippy cups. It has been hard to tell if she has ever really used her sippy cups right. There is one that is very similar to a bottle, but is a spill proof sippy none the less. I know she has been drinking water from that one but wasn't sure about the rest. So of course she was fussing big time for her bottle at first so I put her in her high chair for food. She was happy with that and ate very well. Then I gave her a sippy of milk and one of water. She was not happy with that. She tried the milk, I could see it on her mouth, but wasn't feeling it. So nap time came and went, she was apparently satiated because she went down as normal. So to get to the point of where it turned good, I finally figured out that she just wasn't liking the milk cold, so I heated it just barely to room temp and then she was very happy. She still didn't drink close to the amount of milk she would have of formula with a baby bottle, but she ate 3 solid meals and some snacks so I am happy. She seemed happy too, even smiling as we brushed her teeth and her little gums were bleeding from yet another tooth about to make it's entrance!
Kaleb on the other hand, poor thing has been sick from mild to severe over the past almost 6 weeks! We took him in to the ped with Kelby and he was put on yet another antibiotic and steroid. The steroid syrup tastes absolutely HORRIBLE, worse than anything I have ever tasted, so needless to say it has been quite a challenge to get it down him. It's not like you can just mix it in his juice either, it is that pungent. So I either had to think of something or he was going to have to go in and get a shot of it in the butt tomorrow. So, pulling out all the stops, I got some new balls I had bought out of the storage closet, got a popsicle, and stripped him down to his diaper in case he ended up throwing up. I got him all geared up, told him he'd get a surprise if he took the medicine, was honest and reminded him it was yucky, and off we went...I'd give him a good lick of the popsicle, squirt 1 or 2 milliliters of yucky medicine in his mouth, give him more popsicle, he'd swallow, make a face, then, BAM, surprise, new bouncy ball! Repeat, repeat, repeat...about 3 minutes, 4 balls later, and only a little bit gagged out, we got it down. Then, when we had to do it all over again tonight, I busted out some new horse stickers and he took it all without any gagging, no spillage, and almost none of the silly antics and noises I had done the first time. Such a little man! I was so proud of him I could not stop kissing his whole face! Now the real test will be the 6 more times we have to do this over the next 3 days:( Ugh...
But you know what...at the end of this rather emotional roller coaster of a day, I have 2 amazing little sweethearts fast asleep, and the knowledge that we get to wake up and...DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN! Yippee! LOL
Here are some recent pix...Kelby did not get near as messy as I thought she would with her smash cake. It was still great fun for her and the family to watch. Enjoy!
Kelby is just getting started on her "smash" cake...notice Kaleb wondering where his is!
Yay, this is fun!
Okay now I need to wipe my hands in my hair
Okay all done, cheese for the camera and off to shower it all off!
Kaleb hamming it up for the camera in Kelby's new Dora tent
Kelby is just a little excited about her new baby doll stroller!
Checking out her new Dora tent
The Princess Birthday Girl!
This was Kaleb yesterday after we got home from his doctor appt. Poor thing...he usually sleeps in our room when he's sick, so we put him in there with his Max & Ruby movie on, and after a bit I went to check on him and this is how I found him. Since we got our new mattress there is such a gap between the foot of it and the footboard, and Kaleb loves to jump around in it. I shoved some pillows down there so he wouldn't get hurt so I guess he thought he'd just take a snooze! I moved him, after I took a picture of course, and he never budged!
Nana and her grandbabies...Kelby was teething and had a fever this day which is why she does not have her normal silly smile on her face...Kaleb makes up for it though I think!
