First, here are Kaleb's stats from his doctor appt. on Monday:
Weight: 29 1/2 lbs. (60%)
Height: 36" (90 %)
On Kaleb's actual birthday (which was the 19th), we started off the day opening presents. There was so much, from us and the ones from his friends, so it was a little overwhelming for him. But he was a trooper and loved throwing away the garbage (his new thing, which is actually a really big help!) as much as opening the presents.
Then we went to Putnam Park. It was so nice outside and he had a blast going going up and down the slide about 20 times.
Later that night we had the family party. We decided to do a Halloween theme which made it very fun and memorable for everyone. I have to say that the highlight of the night, was when Kaleb was digging into his ice cream cake, Aunt Debbie started counting in Spanish (not sure why but I think she was getting at asking him how old he was), and she said "Uno" and he yells out "Dos!". Turns out, he can count to 5 in Spanish with no help, and can go all the way to 10 with some help. I guess something good has come out of watching so much Dora & Diego. You see the thing is, Lou and I didn't even know he could do it! But it proves our case...TV can be educational!
On Tuesday we finally decided to move Kelby into Kaleb's room. So far it has been just shy of a nightmare, but there are also a few moments that are so sweet! Like when Kaleb reaches in and gets Kelby's paci for her, or tickles her, or pulls the string on her music for her. The only problem with it is she used to fall right asleep when we put her down and now she has a very energetic distraction. This has caused her to be a lot more active in her crib, sitting up and rolling around, and then she ends up in positions she is not happy with. I would have to say the loudest and most disturbing thing Kaleb does to keep Kelby up is messing with his blinds. Lou is going to try to figure out a way to secure them down so he can't keep lifting them up and banging them down on the window sill.
Kelby has been going through a lot of growing pains too. She just starting cutting her top 2 teeth on Wednesday and has had it pretty rough this time. She can only roll over from her back to her tummy so hopefully she will be able to go the other way soon. She can sit up from laying on her tummy by pushing herself up on all fours, and then slowly lifting her hands and upper body up until she is sitting. It looks awkward and hard but she gets the job done! She really wants to crawl so bad too but can't seem to figure out how to get going once she is in the position. It all seemed to come to Kaleb so naturally and at such an early age, that I see her getting a lot more frustrated than he did. But beyond physical strenth and ability, she can really hold her own. She loves to bang objects together, she can hold her own bottle, and she loves to imitate sounds. The separation anxiety seems to be starting but she does seem to be ok with friends/family she is used to being around.
So that is it for now. We are going to a Halloween party tomorrow night with my MOMS Club, and then we will be taking Kaleb trick-or-treating for the first time on Friday. He is going to be Diego and Kelby is going to be Dora. Pretty appropriate I think!
Here are some pix from the last week or so...
